New York, USA, May 25, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón will join United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as Under-Secretary-General and CEO of the United Nations Global Compact United Nations, Sanda Ojiambo, CEO of major companies and other leaders of the United Nations, governments, civil society and local networks of the United Nations Global Compact to take stock of the progress of companies towards the Sustainable Development Goals (ODD).

Under the theme The World We Want, this year’s 24-Hour Leaders’ Summit on June 1-2 will delve in-depth into collective and individual assessment of the sustainability journey, from reviewing the themes and global trends to the resources and tools needed to accelerate progress. in the business.

Over 24 hours of continuous virtual programming, speakers and guests from 69 local Global Compact networks will discuss responsible business practices through the lens of pressing issues such as humanitarian responses to the war in Ukraine; the state of sustainability; credible climate action; reduce inequalities through collective action; transform governance; women’s leadership in decision-making; accelerate a sustainable, inclusive and fair transition and bring innovative sustainable investment instruments to market.

The UN Global Compact Local Network in Thailand will organize, in partnership with the United Nations Country Team in Thailand and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), a forum in day person to inform, inspire and catalyze local and regional solutions to advance the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement in the ASEAN region. The event will attract participants from Global Compact networks in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

The Leaders’ Summit will also include the in-person opening of Stockholm+50 on June 2, which brings together the global environmental community in the Swedish capital for a major international meeting on the environment five decades after the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. 1972. The event will provide leaders with the opportunity to build on 50 years of multilateral environmental action to deliver the bold and urgent action needed to secure a better future on a healthy planet.
