Sheffield United close in on new signing with Stoke City goalkeeper Adam Davies ‘eager’ to join

Sheffield United are closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window.
The Blades have reached an agreement with Stoke City for their goalkeeper Adam Davies.
The 29-year-old has previously worked with manager Paul Heckingbottom. He was his shotgun at Barnsley when he led them to promotion from League One in 2016.
The Blades boss had to act this week to replace Sweden international Robin Olsen after his loan was cut short so he could move to Aston Villa.
Davies was undergoing a medical yesterday before moving to Bramall Lane.
Speaking after his side’s 3-2 loss at home to Fulham, Potters boss Michael O’Neill confirmed the keeper is keen to join.
“Adam is having a medical today, as I understand it, with Sheffield United,” he told StokeonTrentLive yesterday.
“We had to make a decision with Adam. He’s out of contract at the end of the season. He wanted to move and we had to make a decision based on finances.”
Davies made 41 appearances during his two-and-a-half years at bet365, including 15 this season.
Heckingbottom had previously revealed he wanted an experienced Championship keeper to push current number one Wes Foderingham and provide competition.
Davies will be told that it is Foderingham’s position to lose and he will start on the bench.
