Downtown Christmas Magic brings holiday cheer to Florence

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – It’s the holiday season and Downtown Christmas Magic has returned to Florence with slides, a life-size snow globe and vendors.
Rachel Baggett, development coordinator at the Downtown Development Corporation, said expectations were particularly high as the event was reduced in 2020 due to COVID-19. The event began with Christmas tree lighting and a holiday light and music show. Baggett said the show alone took three weeks to put together.
âIt was a huge undertaking. I have the scratches and the back pain to prove it. It’s one of the funniest things we do. Just seeing the excitement of people as they walk through the show is worth it, âBaggett said. “I just think people are ready to go out and celebrate the best that Florence has to offer.”
She said the goal of the event is to bring families together and support local businesses. Downtown traders like Andrena Mullins from LilJazZi’s Cafe said they looked forward to increased foot traffic for the event.
âIt’s so pretty downtown. Everyone has their decorated windows and lights, it’s just a beautiful time of year, âMullins said. âOf course, we still love activities and love everything that is happening downtown. We always want to get involved, so even if it’s just a cup of hot chocolate, hey, we’ll get it for you.
Business owners entered a holiday window decorating competition. Mullins said she urged all of her customers to vote for her display.
The event lasted until nine o’clock. Entrance was free and News13 was one of the sponsors. The holiday light and music show will be available for the rest of the month.
